We speak 'Fisherman Language'

Increasingly children can't speak their mother tongue...
(mixed marriages, non resident et al)
Since, we both spoke the same language it was but obvious that our lil one would learn Bengali
But we as new parents took extra effort to speak only in Bengali...
result being our 2 something speaks fluent Bengali using words, I for one have never used
'boddo' being a favourite - thanks to his grandmom!
Not being able to speak in English we realised was the least of our worries...
Our son spoke fluent 'CRASS' Mumbai ishtyle hindi especially when spoken to in any other language but his mother tongue...

'Tu kidhar ja raha hai'
'tere ko maru kya'
'tere ko pakdu'
'mere ko nahin chahiye'
- the non offensive ones

Root cause analysis attributes this to over of maids during the day
And songs like ' pappu cant dance, s*!&', 'goli maar bhejey mein', 'woh s*@# kaam se gaya'
topping the charts currently.

Trip back from Cal...A sardarji sitting quietly in a corner waiting for the departure call....
1.5 yr old tod goes upto him and with flaying arms and stomping feet sings 'singh is king, singh is king, singh is king'

I look on...why can't mothers teach their children better manners!!!
Then when no one is looking, I bury myself !!!!!

A Wedding Gift

The fiery vermilion,
the clinking of bangles,
pave the way
for your right of passage.
Conch shells-
announce the time to bid adieu
to your parental home.

Your future beckons
promising the world-
Prosperity, success
bliss and contentment.
Having made us proud,
may you, our 'much wanted',
be the pride of your brand new home.
May your contagious smile,
like merry sunshine,
brighten up the bleak days
of those you are with.

Ecstasy and agony are
different faces of teh same coin.
Heads or tail -
Destiny will decide.
Do not be overwhlemed
by the complexities of life.
Try to stoically take
everything in your stride.
Learn to persevere,
to keep your cool.
Be good, be just, be humane.
Be not oversensitive.

Life is a balancing act
on the tightrope of time.
Hold on to some
let go of others...
and always
-ALWAYS STAND TALL
